Rogan art is one of the hidden gems of the Kutch region of Gujarat, believed to have its origins in the land of Iran, historic Persia. Kutch is known for its distinct embroidery traditions that are practiced by different communities that reside in regions. Rogan art, although mirroring similar visual aesthetics as embroideries, is the art of decorating fabrics like painted canvases. Colorful and sporting meticulously detailed decoration, a viscous natural paste is used to create patterns on fabric. It is used on garments and textile accessories alike. The Khatri family hailing from the village of Nirona in Kutch is the prominent practitioner of this art form. This art form is as rare as it gets as it is only practiced by 6 artists in the entire world.
