Rudraksha is a Sanskrit compound word consisting of Rudra is one of Shiva's vedic names and Aksha means 'teardrops'. Thus defined, the name means "Lord Rudra's teardrops". Sanskrit dictionaries translate Aksha as eye. Sources like Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami and Kamal Narayan Seetha also translate Aksha as eye, in which case Rudraksha would mean "Eye of Lord Shiva" or "Eye of Rudra".
